چکیده
Embryos in Wax: Models from the Ziegler Studio [6], is a history of embryo wax modeling written by science historian Nick Hopwood [5]. Published by the Whipple Museum of the History of Science University of Cambridge and the Institute of the History of Medicine University of Bern [7], 2002, the book, like the wax models, helps exemplify the visual and material culture of science. The first half of the book describes the modeling work of Germany?s Adolf and son Friedrich Ziegler [8] during the rise of developmental embryology [9] from 1850 to 1920, a time when embryology?s practitioners needed educational aids that could help teach students in laboratories and lay persons in public lectures. Threedimensional wax models provided just this visual aid.

Portraits of doctors and scientists use attributes of profession and discovery to construct identities: books for learned physicians and microscopes for laboratory researchers, plants for botanists, molecules for chemists and equations for mathematicians. متن کاملGastrulation in Xenopus
The process of gastrulation [6] allows for the formation of the germ layers [7] in metazoan embryos, and is generally achieved through a series of complex and coordinated cellular movements. The process of gastrulation [6] can be either diploblastic or triploblastic. In diploblastic organisms like cnidaria or ctenophora, only the endoderm [8] and the ectoderm [9] form; in triploblastic organism...

anatomist. The project was so complex that Sabin spent seven weeks with Ziegler working on the models. It is clear from Sabin’s letters home that the process of modeling illuminated her understanding of the threedimensional of the brain. These, and almost all of the models were associated with publications in learned journals, lending scientific authority to what might have been considered mere...

The uses of anatomical models in medical teaching changed dramatically during the nineteenth century. The most celebrated Enlightenment ceroplastics, the royal collections directed by the natural philosopher Felice Fontana in Florence and copied for the militarymedical academy in Vienna, united science and art in three-dimensional encyclopaedias of the body. According to Fontana, one could lear...
متن کاملAnalysis of DNA fragmentation in bovine somatic nuclear transfer embryos using TUNEL.
The production of cloned animals is an inefficient process because of early or late embryonic losses. This study focused on the DNA fragmentation that occurs during embryonic development. The occurrence of DNA fragmentation was examined in bovine embryos produced by in vitro fertilization (IVF) and somatic cell nuclear transfer (NT) using the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT) nick-end...
